Old Forester was my favorite of all the tours we took. The tour guide was extremely informative and knowledgeable. The tasting was delicious. The chocolates they give you with the bourbon are out of this world. This was the only tour where we got to see barrels being made and charred. Bonus is the flights available in the bar.
Very nice tour. One thing that set them apart from other tours was they demonstrate how to cooper and char their barrels. I included a photo of the tasting selections, all very common and available.
The Old Forester Distilling Co. was an awesome tour, well worth the trip. We went to the downtown location which is the original location however it was recently renovated and updated so it was very modern. Noah was our tour guide, he did an excellent job, very knowledgeable but still funny and entertaining. The entire staff was very nice and accommodating, they went out of their way to make sure we had an excellent experience.
Great historical distillery! Make sure to book a couple of months in advance to get the tour time you want. Beautiful facility with a gift shop and bar. They have lovely chocolate as well!
This tour was run like a Swiss watch. It was very enjoyable and I loved the history. I learned more on this tour than on some of the others and our guide was excellent. I learned a new respect for Old Foresters and will gladly display them in my collection. WELL DONE!
Phenomenal freaking tour! Well worth the price. The tour guides are extremely knowledgeable about the brand and the process. This may be a downtown location, but they do active fermentation, distilling and barreling and battling on site. The full history is discussed as part of the tour and tasting.
This place was such a pleasant surprise! The location itself is just gorgeous. Everyone was l there was so friendly and attentive. We stopped in in the morning to look and the store and get your tour/tasting info. When we came back in the evening we were immediately greeted with a "welcome back!". I couldn't believe we were remembered! We purchased a $14 tasting voucher and sat in the bar. Complimentary popcorn and water was brought immediately and our tasting just a few minutes later. We were very impressed and bought a few bottles.
Update: came back a few years late for a tour. Tour was $35 and very informative. Included a great tasting as well.
We did the tasting room at Old Forester, and that was actually the kickoff to our Bourbon Trail guy's weekend. We had the opportunity to sample three different bourbons: Single Barrel 100, Single Barrel Strength, and the Single Barrel Rye. All are good, and that rye absolutely packs a punch! Definitely a great spot too hang out and chat with your buddies, and it's right down the street from just about everything you want to do in Louisville.
